HISN is registered with the Federal Ministry of Health as a Non-Governmental Organisation with Consultative Status. Membership is open to individuals and organisations interested in improving the quality and availability of healthcare through the use of technology. HISN currently has over 300 members from across all sectors including academia, business, civil society and government.

The Health Informatics Society of Nigeria (HISN) was founded in 2006 with the vision of providing an effective forum for the exchange and dissemination of information on all aspects of health informatics. HISN is a registered society under Section 8 (1) of the Nigerian National Registration Act 2004. It has a membership base comprising individuals from academia, industry, and government. HISN’s objectives are to promote excellence in health informatics; to provide a platform testosterone for sale for exchanging ideas and experiences related to health informatics; and to support the development of health informatics capacities within Nigeria. HISN offers Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses on various topics in health informatics.

The Society is currently working on developing a national curriculum in health informatics which will be piloted in selected universities in Nigeria by end of 2016.
